UPS watch

Update on the UPS situation! Not everyone at UPS is an incompetent, mendacious thief, although clearly this is a part of their mission statement.

The guys at UPS informed us that, if we sent back the package, they'd charge the exact same brokerage fee to the sender instead. Since the sender would most likely deduct that from the refund, we'd end up paying it either way. Sarrazin tells them, well, I guess we'll take it then.

Half an hour after that conversation, some bright light at UPS marks the package as 'return' and it goes out the door, on its way back.

Sarrazin goes to pick it up last night and the girl at the desk tells him this. He points out that this happened in contravention to his expressed wishes. She tells him to call back at the same number he's been calling all this time, and tell them that it wasn't supposed to go back, and they'll turn it around at the next shipping station. She's very apologetic about the fact that this may add up to three days to the delivery time. Sarrazin makes an offhand comment about how it took twelve days the first time around. The girl replies to this with a very loud and profane statement of shock and disbelief. Other employees there get pulled into the conversation and, likewise, are disgusted at how this has been mishandled.

They gave Sarrazin instructions on how to have the package delivered, and how to have the brokerage fee addressed. It might be reduced, or even waived entirely, according to them. I guess we'll see what happens.

I put in an order at sentrybox late on Monday. That order is now pretty much guaranteed to arrive before the bulk lot order, put in lo so many weeks ago. This, my friends, is why I buy Canadian.

I already know what will happen. You'll get charged double the brokerage fees (after all it left the border twice), and this time you'll get taxed by customs.

:)
