On Sunday my brother and I tried to get a multiplayer Civ4 game going. Setting it up was dirt simple (once I remembered the password to my router) and it played fine on my end, but it was unplayably slow on his. Since RJA has basically the same computer as my brother, and it was unplayably slow for him as well, I suspect that this is just due to the computer in question not being up to it. My brother was being evasive about whether or not he actually tried it standalone, though -- he said he did, but apparently 'playing it' and 'installed it' are interchangeable.
This is very unfortunate as we had been looking forward to trying this out. But it bodes well for friends who have modern computing hardware.
The cards have still not arrived. Sigh.
