Not My Blood

Went to Kung Fu tonight. It was supposed to be a normal advanced class, but Sifu declared it a sparring class. It turned out to be an awfully fun class, as there was only five of us and everybody was highly ranked and knew what they were doing reasonably well. Normally sparring includes a lot of people who are fairly new, don't have much skill and don't understand that it's a learning experience and not so much about how hard you can hit the other guy. I felt good about my matches (set up people successfully a few times and got to use an honest to god live phon sao twice). I'm still learning, but I think progress is being made, if slowly.

I ended up with blood on my shirt and on the cuffs of my gloves. Not a whole lot of blood, but I didn't notice how it got there. I'm pretty confident that it isn't mine.

My lovely wife picked up two bags of potato chips. One is Fries and Gravy flavour, the other Roasted Chicken. This is the most exciting culinary discovery since I learned there were new types of bacon. (Readers of Foran Object's blog take note: this is what passes for culinary digression on this blog. My lovely wife is the cook of note in this household. I mostly just beat people up.)

My lovely wife continues her exploration of the Big Fish online computer game space. Her most recent game involves lots of little gnomes -- think lawn ornament -- popping out of holes, which you must whack with a hammer, at which point they shatter and give you coins. At first I wasn't sure about the motivation, I mean they're basically sessile garden accessories, but after I got a good chance to listen to the sounds they make, I came to the conclusion that they are asking for it.

Tonight my lovely wife made up a salad out of cucumber, cherry tomatoes and hunks of mozarella cheese, and also made some rice and corn, and I barbequed souvlaki skewers, lamb for me and chicken for the Mrs. Normally we thaw them first but this time I just slapped them on frozen and cooked them from there. Turns out they were much juicier and more flavourful, and getting them on the grill (we use these aluminum foil cooking trays, which are awesome) was less messy than usual. Although this started as an improvisation, I think we'll have to do them like this next time.

My brother the photogenic dance machine has a habit of using abbreviations in his electronic communiques which confound me. w/e? n2m? I don't get it. WTF.

Still watching Stargate s1 and West Wing s3. Stargate had an episode recently, the Torment of Tantalus, which rocked. Completely and totally rocked. The show is starting to realize its potential a bit, and I am excited. The West Wing continues to be just amazingly well written, but it's been like that since day one, so there you are.

Magic night tomorrow. Can't wait.
