Vacation Day 4

Eye Candy

It's Friday!

Cornbread Visit

We stopped by work this morning. Part of the reason was that Optimist Prime had finally received our bulk card order from those thieving bastards at UPS, and I wanted to pay him and pick up my stuff. The other reason was that I'd prepared a large quantity of cornbread, and I wanted to share.

I happen to work with some gifted chefs and bakers, and I'm invariably on the receiving end of the goodies flow. It's nice to be able to shell out some lovin'.

The cornbread seemed to go over well.

Lunch

My lovely wife and I met up with Izzy at a faux-British pub type place for lunch on the patio. The ale I ordered was quite nice, although their "butter chicken" -- while tasty -- would be suitable grounds for assault and battery if someone had the temerity to serve it in the UK. The waitress was inattentive and sullen and didn't get a great tip.

Good beer though, and it's always great to see Izzy.

Park, and Rainfall

After lunch my lovely wife and I went to a park here in town and wandered around for a while. We watched the boats, my lovely wife messed with the heads of the geese, we tried to avoid goose droppings. It was a lot of fun and extremely relaxing. We need to do that more often.

On the way back into our end of town, the heavens opened up and rain, thunder and lightning poured forth. We hit a grocery store on the way back to get the fixings for rissotto, and it lost power while we were there. Coming back through all the intersections with the power out was about as exciting as it usually is.

We left the window open in the bedroom. A huge area of carpet was soaked and a corner of the bed got pretty wet. Fortunately there's a waterproof liner on the bed, but the sheets are going to be clammy at best by bedtime. My lovely wife cheerfully assessed the damage as 'not a problem, it's all on your side of the bed'.

Magic Cards

I opened up my share of the lot and went through the cards. I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised by the quality and selection included. The very first sets (alpha and beta) aren't represented, nor is the most recent (Coldsnap), but literally every set in between is featured with at least a few cards. Quite a few of them are from recent sets and include a decent selection of uncommons and a few rares. No big money cards, but lots of stuff I'd want, including a few cards that have been on my want list for some time. (I haven't had any luck finding an Orzhov Guildmage in a booster, but there's one in here!)

Tonight I've sorted the cards into sets. There have been a lot of sets over the years. In the picture below, each pile is one set.

Big props to Optimist Prime for fighting with UPS all this time in order to get our stuff delivered safe and sound. You are the man.

You know, given how nice the selection is in this lot, I'd happily order from the guy again -- provided we can get him to ship USPS.

Dinner

We're both pretty tired so the home-made rissotto is being rescheduled. My lovely wife made nachos the other day and had a bunch of ground beef left over; we're doing nachos, take 2.

Mmm, nachos.
