Hockey Night in Canada
Saturday evening we went to see the Senators play hockey. The Sens spent the first period playing like a peewee league team, the sole exception being Emery, who was made of solid gold. By the third they were up to form, though, and the Sabers got taken to the woodshed in that period for a 4-1 final.
We're going again Monday night.
Booster Draft
Today, Serdic, Null, Mr. T, Optimist Prime and myself engaged in the Second Irregular Booster Draft, this time featuring the Kamigawa block. I drafted a lot of red and then green, and splashed blue to get a few cards I never used. I got taken in my first game due to luck (screwed for mana) and I lost my second because my deck wasn't working (which I can blame on no one but myself). So I took out the blue and tried to load in more creatures at the lower end of the curve. It sorta worked, but I really only beat Prime because it took him too long to put me away, letting me get a few big beasties out to wallop him with a Soul Blast. He got me down to 1 life before I killed him, too. There were a lot of close games in this one.
Null and Mr. T did very well but the surprise performance was Serdic, who kicked both my ass and Prime's and ended up in a three-way tie for first place.
Each round was two one-on-one games with one person sitting it out, so that everybody played everybody else once.
Round 1: Nail vs Serdic (Serdic wins), Null vs Mr. T (Mr. T wins)
Round 2: Prime vs Null (Null wins), Mr. T vs Serdic (Serdic wins)
Round 3: Nail vs Mr. T (Mr. T wins), Prime vs Serdic (Serdic wins)
Round 4: Nail vs Prime (Nail wins), Null vs Serdic (Null wins)
Round 5: Nail vs Null (Null wins), Prime vs Mr. T (Mr. T wins)
Final scores: Serdic 3-1, Null 3-1, Mr. T 3-1, Nail 1-3, Prime 0-4
Serdic generously donated two booster packs of Scourge as prizes, and as we'd run out of time we put both packs into one pile and drafted the whole stack in order; the top three winners rolled a dice to see who would draw first, second and third.
Null took another god damned Undead Warchief as his first draw. Grr.
Overall, we all came away with a nice selection of Kamigawa cards (though Mr. T has to take the prize for pulling a Pointy Stick) and six Scourge cards as prize. Good time had by all.
It was especially good to have Null back from foreign shores, and hopefully we'll be able to keep him for a while.
Secret Project
The secret project has been revealed. A full post will follow on that point.
Later On
My lovely wife and I went for a run, since the weather was cooperating (if you can call 1 degree C cooperating). She continues to improve at an impressive pace. Then we went through some kung fu refreshers as she's looking to join back up again fairly soon. Then, a late dinner, a blog post, and shortly, to bed.
