Everything In The World

Monday Night Hockey

Monday night was a fun game. The Sens played strong in the first and the Wild got walked on, but the boys in red started to lose it in the second and got dramatically outdone in shots on goal. Once again, Emery saved their asses. They were picking it up again by the third, but if they'd played all game like they did in the first it would have been an even bigger win than their 5-3 final. A win is a win, but they really need to be able to consistently play to their potential if they want to salvage something of this season. These uneven performances are not cutting the mustard.

The Wild do have a pretty cool logo, though. I thought Wolfgang would like this.

Not too shabby.

The Secret Project

A while back, when we first got Null into Magic, he asked about Jyhad, which was a card game released as the follow-up to Magic by Wizards. It was based on the White Wolf Vampire roleplaying games, and it was cool, but it perished long ago. I never got into it.

While Null was overseas I discovered, to my considerable surprise, that Jyhad wasn't actually dead. Wizards had pulled the plug, so White Wolf picked it up and started releasing supplements themselves, and they've been at it ever since. They came out with a new core set a few years back that changed the card faces to make them prettier and easier to read, but all the old stuff is compatible with all the new stuff.

So I resolved to track down a deck and surprise Null with it. Finding the stuff wasn't easy; there's exactly one store I could find which carries it, and it's all the way downtown. Most stores weren't aware it had continued after Wizards dropped it. Prime had some cards from way back when, so he, Serdic and I got together once I'd made my trek downtown and tried a game.

Vampire is an awesome game. It has a dynamic which is completely unlike Magic, and a whole different kind of complexity.

Unfortunately the surprise was ruined as Null went to Serdic's local store to pick up his cards for our booster draft, and saw the starter kit they have there (no boosters or starters, but they did have a starter kit). So he found out that it's still in print. Damn!

This coming Thursday I'll be breaking out the Vampire decks against Null. I have this feeling that he's going to whip my ass, but even so, I can't wait.

Phnom Penh

Lunch with Null, Kris, RJA and Serdic yesterday at Phnom Penh. Unfortunately I became the latest victim of the Curse of Thailand. The food there is amazing but something in it doesn't sit well, every once in a while. I think I may have to abstain, even from their amazing C6 (Golden Chicken).

Old Home Week

Null is back, and so is Foran Object. It was good to see him again. He's a bit of a crazy-man but we miss him when he's gone.

Even I'm not immune to the Phnom Penh curse. I got Exotic Noodles one time, and they really did a number on me.
