A Weekend ... of PAIN!

Blogger Sucks

This post was actually written in wordpad, because Blogger seems to not want to play right now.

Ow

I am a hurting unit.

Friday was my first night back to Kung Fu after a three week absence due to illness. Altogether I thought I did pretty well; two minutes of tigers to start and another minute at the end, and I didn't drop. I knew that I would pay for it, though, and I did.

Saturday I got up early to meet Serdic and then we went on to pick up /dev/null. We hit the Greasy Spoon for breakfast (steak and eggs, good but everything is so damn salty there) and then on to Foran Object's place.

The trenches looked rather large once you were standing in front of them (or, you know, in them). A bunch of Foran Object's friends came along to help and Optimist Prime was there as well (which was impressive as he had to do the 5k Run for the Cure the next day). We managed to get earth or sand over the bells at the bottom of the posts, and got one trench filled in and the other three not-quite-half filled in. The sand wasn't too bad to work with but most of the earth was this heavy wet clay that sticks to your shovel and weighs a ton. I didn't like that stuff much.

/dev/null was struck down by problems with his stomach. He stuck it out as long as he could, and was able to help get the bells covered with earth, which was the most time-intensive and physically demanding part of the job for us lowly shovel-pushers. He was in rough shape when he finally packed it in; hope you're feeling better, bud.

Foran Object and his lovely wife Pigtails (hat tip to Zeta for coming up with a memorable sobriquet) kept us well supplied with water during the day and put out a feast of lasagna, salad and cheesy breadsticks for lunch, plus beer afterwards.

I was pretty happy with what we got done.

Pigtails lent me the Foran copy of BSG 2.5, which I can't wait to get into (except that I'm going to have to wait, as we're still working on their Gilmore Girls S6 DVD).

Today, pretty much every muscle in my body aches.

Maybe Not So Super Store

We went out to do a bit of shopping today. We were unfortunately unable to pick up a microwave. We couldn't find one we liked, except possibly at Canadian Tire, but we weren't going to buy there because the cheapest one they had was about $150+. We decided that we hadn't been able to find one nicer than the inexpensive chrome one at the Great Canadian Superstore.

Unfortunately (and I know this is going to make RJA quite distraught), I don't think we're turning into fans of the Superstore. It's still insanely busy; the lines were unreal. The lanes between aisles are far too narrow, to the point that it's a real problem if you're taking a shopping card down one and someone tries to pass you. There isn't really room for two of them to pass side by side.

And they were out of the microwave we were looking for.

This is About Magic, RJA, So You Can Skip Over It

We stopped by the local store so I could pick up a box of sleeve sheets, which they finally had in stock (box of one hundred for twenty bucks! Woohoo!). I also picked up a couple of boosters. I got a few things that I can really use, some stuff for a R/B deck and a Skeletal Vampire -- that's my third, which is great because this guy is one of the best creatures in Ravnica. I also got a Dovescape, which appeals to me basically because it's got a huge, bizarre, messed-up effect that I can't wait to drop on a multiplayer table.

Unfortunately I also got a Yore-Tiller Nephilim. My third.

The Nephilim are a cycle of rare 4-colour creatures. Their abilities are all wierd things that don't belong anywhere in the colour pie. Mark Rosewater once wrote an article in which he tried to explain why they made the Nephilim, and all he managed to come up with was basically "it seemed like a good idea at the time".

I've managed to unwrap four of the five Nephilim, and no less than three Yore-Tillers. I have no idea what I would do with them. I can't really imagine a deck that they would fit into.

Which, to me, sounds like a challenge.

Prognostication

This coming week is probably going to be busy. My lovely wife has curling tomorrow; I'd like to get in a night of Kung Fu on Tuesday; Wedding rehearsal on Thursday, I need to pick up a tux at some point, and then Saturday is the wedding and Sunday is Stewie and Tasty's big day.

Hard to believe that the Greek's nuptials are almost upon us. Zut alors!

Eye Candy
