It's gray outside and raining like a bitch. All this week is going to be like that. I remain quite convinced that the weather we had this past weekend was a sign of divine providence and its approval of his nuptials.
MagicMagic night tomorrow.
I've floated the idea of a booster draft and mini-tournament day, to occur the weekend after next. Serdic, /dev/null and Optimist Prime have all agreed to join in, which makes me happy. I was originally thinking of doing a Ninth Edition draft but Null suggested Time Spiral, which in retrospect seems like a much better idea.
Last night Serdic and I stopped by the local game store so he could pick up a fat pack, and while we were there we picked up the three boosters of Time Spiral we'll need for the draft, and I also got a pair of starters. Looking through them has made me awfully excited to draft from this set. The land is all amazingly pretty. I picked up a couple of nice cards, including a Magus of the Scroll; highlights of the timeshifted cards would include Eron the Relentless, Gaea's Liege and an Uthden Troll.
I am loving this set.
Battlestar Galactica/dev/null is enthusiastic about getting started with the BSG CCG, so I've been doing some digging into how it's set up. There is a starter set which contains 61 cards, but they're exactly the same for each starter set. You can play it as one deck of 61 cards or split it into two 30-card decks which can be the core of a deck themselves. I'm thinking we should probably pick that up, each take half, and round it out with a few boosters worth of additional cards.
There doesn't seem to be a great deal of useful information online about how to get started with this set and how to build a deck. I've joined the Yahoo Groups BSG CCG mailing list in the hope that they'll be helpful in this regard.
It looks like a fun game, and I'm eager to get into it.
Along those lines, the subject of Magic Night came up, namely how bad a name it is. Game night was floated as an alternative, although my lovely wife prefers Card Night.
Ouch
I managed to hurt my wrist this Saturday, an unfortunate intersection of inebriation and enthusiasm on the dance floor. It was fine on Sunday but yesterday it started to stiffen up and get sore, and today it's much the same. It's a bit of a pain in the ass, to be honest.
Google World DominationGoogle has updated their web-based spreadsheet program with a web-based word-analogue in their continuing efforts to become the most powerful force in the universe. A while back I tried loading my Magic card spreadsheet into Google Spreadsheets, only to kill my browser. I opened up that particular web service today to discover, to my surprise, that the spreadsheet was actually there.
This is very interesting. I think I might update it with the latest one and put a link to it from my blog.
