Eighteen with Eleven Years Experience
So I'm older. Not in the incremental way that normally happens day-to-day, either, but the presumably significant one in which your effective age abruptly increments.
You know, it's hard enough to remember how old I am without it changing all the time.
I enjoyed my birthday quite a bit. There were presents! We went shopping and I got cards and toys. My mom made me a steak and kidney pie and a vanilla-frosted lemon cake for dessert. It was a lot of fun.
Lots and Lots of People
The Greek and his lovely wife Ladybug stopped by for a visit but unfortunately the Greek's usual iron constitution wasn't up to form and we had to take a raincheck. It was still good to see them though. Hope you're feeling better, buddy.
The Mothership ran into an old friend of mine from high school. I'm going to have to get in touch with him and say hi; we were thick as thieves back in the day.
My lovely wife is pretty amazing, have I mentioned that lately? She really is.
Wolfgang Goes to Ottawa
The brother unit is being driven back to the big city today. I don't believe he updated his blog the whole time he was here, did he? No, I don't believe he did.
It was good to see him. We should be having him over for his birthday, which will be fun.
The Relocating Nexii
We stopped by the k-town game store on my birthday. We found that it had relocated, again -- if you count when it was called Smee's, that's the fourth time. This is easily the best location though, really quite large (lots of room for tables for tournaments and such) and a great selection. The minis and RPGs are decent, a really good selection of games and a great rack of card games.
We were able to find a copy of Deluxe Dr. Lucky for the Mothership, which we'd only seen at Fandom back home and even they were out of stock when I went to pick it up.
They had Vampire in stock, and both of the Five Rings starters I was looking for, so now we'll be able to give that a try at game night, which I'm looking forward to. They also sell little boxes of 150 magic cards for $15, random assortments from all sorts of sets, which is basically what Prime and I got in that bulk order, except you can get them in small increments and not have to FedEx them from who knows where.
Overall, it was very adequate!
AV Club
Finished Dawkins' the Ancestor's Tale. Presently reading a book my lovely wife got me on the Normandy invasion and Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond. We also picked up The Selfish Gene by Dawkins and one of Niven's Ringworld books because it was on for five bucks.
We watched the first two episodes of Bones, which we got Wolfgang for xmas. It was pretty good.
We also watched Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Now that's some funny shit.
That's About It
I'm going back to reading and slacking off. Have a good one.
