Weekend Update

I am a posting whore. I cannot resist the lure of expressing myself to the teeming hordes (ok, half dozen people tops) who flock to (are vaguely aware of the existence of) this blog.

Kung fu this morning, lots of grappling resulting in a sore throat from choke-holds and a new appreciation for the thigh strength of people who ride horses frequently. My lovely wife bought me a huge steak and kidney pie, in addition to date squares, regular fruit pies, and home made jams. Mmmmmmm.

Reading Gordon Corrigan's Blood, Sweat and Arrogance, a history of British efforts in the Second World War. My reading of WW2 history has not left me with a high opinion of Churchill as a wartime leader and this book is doing a good job of confirming this state of affairs. I find it fascinating how Churchill is so highly regarded within the UK and outside of it, whereas Roosevelt is not (as far as I can tell) equally appreciated abroad (although, to my mind, much more deserving).

We're watching Babylon 5, and we're up to season 5. It's slow going. When you watch the whole thing back-to-back you get a new appreciation for how much B5 relies on the big picture epic arcs and long-range plotting. Divorced of that, and with annoying characters like Byron added (get a haircut, hippy) it's not up to the level established by the first four seasons. At all.

Can't wait for season 2.5 of BSG.

Update: Adding a picture, my new title bar.
