Back from camping. We ended up going to Rideau River Provincial Park; we left a little later than I was expecting but were pleasantly surprised that it was even closer than we expected. About fifteen minutes travel time, not too shabby.
Unfortunately it isn't quite as nice of a park as some others we've tried. Our site wasn't large and didn't have much privacy, and the beaches were small, shallow and had lots of plant life on the bottom (and thus, inevitably, floating on top). As I am married to a mermaid, beach quality is an important consideration.
Regardless, we had a good time. We ate well, went swimming, sat around and read (especially when we got seriously rained on on Saturday) and had two decent campfires.
Before we left, the dickweeds camped kitty-corner to us packed up their monster SUV and left with their campfire still burning. Not much active flame, but it put out a good plume of smoke for about twenty minutes, until I went over with a bucket of water and took care of it. It still had a couple of largish pieces of wood on it, too. Some people are just so stupid I can't understand it.
This trip saw the debut of two recently acquired pieces of camping gear. The first is a Roots screen enclosure, a big five-sided screened-in thing big enough to fit a picnic table and a bunch of people in. Great for holding your stuff, for eating outside without having to worry about bugs, and for doing what you'd like to be doing even when nature decides you'd look better wet. Easy to assemble and break down and very patriotic in bright red.
The second is a double-height queen sized air mattress, with built-in 120V inflator, and a battery operated one for camping. It proved very comfortable and inflated in two or three minutes with the hand inflator (which wasn't even particularily loud).
We brought a set of 400 thread count queen sized sheets with us for this air mattress. We didn't buy the sheets for camping; we used to have a queen sized bed which we just replaced with a king, and so we find ourselves with a few sets of very nice queen sized sheets, almost brand new, surplus to requirements. One will probably go to a family member to be named later, but the other has a future as luxury camping gear. The colour even goes with our tent. It's important to accessorize well.
So now we're back, all unpacked and relaxed. I love camping.

We stayed home all day incase you dropped by. Nice.
A phone call would have been appreciated.
Yet another reason why your not number one anymore.

See, when I tell Wolfgang by chat that I might be stopping by, possibly, that's not the same as when I phone the Mothership and tell her that I'll be there between X and Y o'clock. Which I always do, when I'm actually (as opposed to possibly) coming down.
Note how this time I did the former and not the latter.
I'm just sayin'.
400 threadcount sheets, eh? Well, whatever works I spose.
Whatever... You're a big foney.

Dear SaboveeNNative,
I notice that you're registered under blogger now. Are you starting a blog? That'd be awesome.
Also: the most important thing is sincerity. Once you can fake that, you've got it made.
Youlooklikeanail...
... I am not starting a blog.
Far too many people start these pathetic ramblings when they have nothing to talk about. My life (when I'm not being deported) is FAR more interesting and unique than the average idiot and I still would not subject people to it.
... I may have some unresolved anger...
It's hard to tell.
