So, it's Valentine's Day.
When you're single, and I was single for a long time, Valentine's Day seems like a direct personal insult, like Hallmark Corporation is singling you out for abuse because you're not in a lovey-dovey gooey relationship. It can be a difficult time of year. I hated Valentine's Day.
I shouldn't have bothered. That's really not what it's about.
If you're single, and you don't care that you're single, then good for you. If you're single and you wish you weren't, just be honest and true to yourself and you'll find the right person. Either way, don't let Valentine's Day get you down. Go do something else, something explicitly for the single folks. Get together with all your single friends and hang out. Play Civilization until the wee hours of the morning. Whatever. Just ignore Valentine's Day, and don't let it get you down.
Because sooner or later you aren't going to be single anymore, and you'll be glad it's there.
Following a semi-tradition we have going, I've taken today off work. I'll be hanging out at home with my lovely wife, not doing anything even vaguely productive. (There may well be a few episodes of Grey's Anatomy in our near future.)
To my lovely wife: I love you, baby. Happy Valentine's Day.

Pfft. I'm going for wings and beer! Hope you're having a good day off.
Amen.
