Friday I took off work and spent the day with my lovely wife, whose birthday it was. We were going to go out for a picnic but it rained hard all day, so we settled for a picnic in the family room. A really good day, very relaxing.
Friday was also the old man's birthday. We were hoping to get down there sometime soon to visit but the car is acting oddly and we're somewhat reluctant to take it on a road trip. I had to settle for a phone call.
Saturday was the Greek's birthday. So far I've resisted the urge to take the picture he posted of the lobster with glasses on and make it my computer's wallpaper. So far. Happy birthday, the Greek!
Geekery
I picked up a box of the new Magic core set. Overall I would rate it 9.5 out of 10, would buy again, I find your ideas intriguing and wish to subscribe to your news letter.- The art is fantastic. Holy/Unholy Strength, Incinerate, and Terror are particular standouts.
- The 16th card is a great idea. I really like the tokens.
- Huge power level for a core set. Phage? Platinum Angel? Pithing Needle? Wow.
- Black borders == teh awesome.
Sigh
Not a great day today, overall. It started off with me breaking a glass and cutting myself (not badly) and didn't improve much. I did get to come home and have lunch with my lovely wife, though, which always cheers me up, and the afternoon went by pretty quickly.
We opened the pack of Pirates ships/cards that I got when I picked up my box of Tenth. She picked the pack that had a giant crab monster in it. She kept poking me with it, gleefully quoting the "I Pinch" lines from that truck commercial. I think she's having a little bit too much fun with the giant crab monster.
Blogger
Why is it that Blogger is always so slow to take input these days? It's not able to keep up with my typing -- I have to throttle down and write in short bursts and wait for it to show up in the text box. Is it just me? Whiskey tango foxtrot?
Media Whores
Every so often you see a news story title that just catches you off guard. That happened the other day when I opened the CBC news site and saw "Brazilian Jet Crashes Into Gas Station". It was a total George Carlin moment. I was all, "What?? Holy shit, I gotta see this!" But, of course, no streaming video. I went to the TV to see if I could see anything on the new-fangled cable news stations, but no dice. Guys, this is why I got TV -- so I can watch planes crashing into gas stations.
I know, that was horribly insensitive. I'm a prick. It happens when I channel George Carlin.
We watched about six hours of this TLC "true stories of the ER" show on Sunday. It was reflected upon that we really haven't watched much TV other than hockey. When we got TV I was a little concerned that it would suck us in and make us media whores, as we were in days of yore. Doesn't seem to be happening.
Game Night
Did I mention that we did a game night at Null's place? A new person from work came out and kicked our asses. It was fun. Thanks to Null for hosting it and keeping us stuffed with pizza.
