On Tuesday evening my lovely wife and I had a visitor at our place. He was gray, with light gray stripes, a cream belly and yellow eyes. He was very friendly but very determined to find a way into our house. It appears he had become convinced that we were his people and our house was where he lived these days.
He hung around for the rest of the evening, sitting outside our patio doors and meowing at us. When we went to bed he camped out in the back yard and meowed at us into the wee hours of the night.
Yesterday he hung around the house all day, sitting in the sunshine on our patio table, watching the birds. He only left his perch when someone was outside, as he didn't seem to want to miss an opportunity to rub against their legs, purr, and try to follow them inside.
We have no idea where he came from. He was obviously a housecat, judging by his cleanliness, his obvious friendliness -- he was very needy for human company -- and his demonstrable lack of survival instincts (finding birds to be an entertaining show and not, for example, lunch). He didn't have a collar, though, or anything that would identify who he belonged to.
Our neighbour was of the opinion that someone probably abandoned him by the road which runs behind our house. He may have just run away and lost track of how to get back home, but if so, he must have wandered pretty far.
We didn't hear him last night and today he hasn't been around. We were trying to find someone who had a cat carrier so we could take him to the humane society, since our efforts to locate a service who would come and pick him up for us proved futile.
Hopefully someone with a carrier has taken care of him. I'd hate to think anything unfortunate happened to him.
The little bastard actually was making me wish that I wasn't allergic to cats. I'm used to that feeling, but only in the sense of, "I wish I wasn't allergic because my allergies are making me miserable (fucking cats)". I've never wanted one of them before.
