Shopping Expedition

Traffic on the highway goes around the elephant.

New Delhi. The streets are wider and the congestion is quite a bit reduced in consequence. They also have been making a determined effort to plant more trees and greenery, both to spruce up the place for the Commonwealth Games, and to help with the pollution.

Delhi.

We got on the highway only to discover an accident had jammed it up pretty good. Instead of sitting there and waiting for two hours, like we would, everybody just turns around and goes the wrong way down the highway to get away from it. When I drew attention to this, my colleague who was driving observed, "Of course, you can do whatever you like. It's a democracy."

Local boy makes good.

The Red Fort. You have no idea how frigging big this thing is. While we were walking around it, on two separate occasions, I had groups of Indians ask politely if they could have their pictures taken with me.

I didn't get pictures of the Barefoot Saree Buying Experience because, to be perfectly honest, the area of town seemed a bit shady. It makes for a good story though.
