Upon Recent Happenings

Well, it's been quite a break since I've logged in to publish my thoughts for the teeming masses (hello, masses). This is due to various recent events of note, and the considerable discomfort they impart upon blogging, or more specifically, typing.

The Weekend Before Last

The Rocket and Team Hooking joined my lovely wife and I for that most famous and fateful of events, the Keiths Bonspiel. Epic amounts of frothy beer were consumed. The Rocket beat me at foosball but I beat him at short-end. We almost won our second game. We ate bacon.

It rocked, no pun intended.

(Pun totally intended.)

Man Down

On Monday (Monday before last, when it was still March) -- a particularly icy morning in the world's snowiest national capital -- I left for work as usual, only to take a dive on an icy sidewalk about three minutes from my front door. Trying to cushion the landing resulted in my hand being driven fingertips-first into the broken shelf of ice lining the crushed-down ice of the sidewalk proper, a substance which I can testify from personal experience has the warmth and softness of broken glass.

I missed work that Monday due to an inability to type, or indeed, use my right hand for anything at all. The fingertips contain some of the greatest density of nerves anywhere on the body and mine looked like they'd been canvas to Zorro's John Hancock.

At the moment, over a week in, the two or three lesser cuts are healing, but the big one is still open, and indeed will likely remain so until it grows out. Some things don't heal.

The biggest frustration with all this is that it severely impairs my usual deftness upon the keyboard. I am managing okay at nine-finger speed typing but the increase in error rate is inconvenient.

Bon Fete Ladybug

This past weekend we hosted The Rocket, Team Hooking, the Greek and Ladybug for a dinner of Mexican type dishes prepared by my lovely wife, in celebration of the lovely Ladybug's birthday. There were balloons and a cake (made with style and panache by TH), and laughs and stories and good times.

It was a lot of fun.

Geek Stuff

I ordered a box of Stargate cards and enough Star Trek cards to choke a caribou (they were stupidly cheap). I got so many Star Trek decks at such a ridiculously good price that I will be equipping willing players at game night gratis.

Not surprisingly, I totally called what deck Serdic would want.

TV

In season 7 of Stargate. Still so, so awesome.

We also just started season 7 of the West Wing. The show is moving in new and challenging directions since season 5 drew to a close. I can't wait to see how it all ends.

My lovely wife picked up season 1 of Third Watch. That just might be next.

Weather

Yesterday did not suck.

We still have four or five times as much snow as k-town did when we saw it last, but things are improving. You take what you can get.

Amusing

I initially mistyped that as 'you yake what you can get'.

I'm easily amused.
