Stuff I've Been Working On

Empire handgunners. This is the first complete unit from my Empire army. I'm really not happy with them; they're pretty substandard. Part of it is that I tried to do all of them (there are 16 in total) at once, which, I've discovered, sucks. Part of it is that I did them over a huge span of time and I wasn't doing much painting for most of that stretch. Well, lessons learned.

Ogres! Also from the Empire army for Warhammer. These guys I banged out in a couple of days. They're about twice the size of your typical human model but take about the same amount of time to paint. I'm pretty pleased with them. There were a few things that went wrong, but I was able to sort it out.

Ogres are mercenaries and not part of my army list proper. As you can tell from the handgunners, blue is the dominant colour in the army (or at least, it will be). So I wanted some blue on them to tie them in to the rest of the force, but not so much that it wasn't obvious that they were not an integral part of it. I think going with the belly-plate works very well for this.

GW ogres are all bald with thin little fu manchu mustaches, so I sculpted hair and beards onto mine.

Chaos Dwarfs! I'm working on an army of these guys and it's going to involve a huge amount of sculpting and conversion work. These are the first 4 of about 50 that I need to do. The gray bits are plastic from the original kit; the green is all original. I put an unmodified dwarf beside them as a reference for what they looked like to start with.

GW had a Chaos Dwarf line way back when but they've been out of circulation for years, which is why I have to make my own. I'm mostly dropping their design and style, except for the beards; they have these braided/coiled Assyrian kind of beards that are pretty cool. The second guy from the left was the first one I did, and you can tell that I was still trying to figure out how to do it. The most recent is farthest on the right and I think he's a pretty good example of what I'm aiming for.
