That's right, today is the 117th anniversary of the official (though obviously not de facto) renunciation of polygamy by the Mormons.
Also, Ben Johnson set the world record in the hundred meter sprint (with the aid of some handy pharmaceuticals) and two popes died.
But enough of that.
Relaxing Weekend
Saturday we did not much at all; loafed around and played computer games, mostly.
Sunday was the Tenth Edition booster draft, with our highest yet number of players at 8. We drafted and then played four rounds of seeding; I finished with a 2-4 record with a black/green deck that never seemed to find its feet. .500 was enough to get me into the finals, though, although I was seeded fourth and had to play the number one man, JW, with a perfect record.
Surprisingly, that's the point at which my deck decided to start working. I beat JW and then beat AL in the finals to win the whole thing. Pretty unexpected, given that I was sitting at 1-3 after three games, with no confidence that my deck was going to give me much of anything from that point forward.
AL did really well for a first time drafter (and, basically, very recent player) to come second. I didn't think I was going to do as well in the finals against her as I did.
The draft and the tournament was lots of fun and I think everybody had a good time. More drafts are planned for the future, so stay tuned.
WoW?
Optimist Prime has finally (some would say inevitably) succumbed to the pressure to play the WoW card game. I gave it a try with him and, well, it's better than I would have thought. There's some room for subtlety and sneakiness, as well as screwing over the other guy, and I appreciate that in a card game.
I'm going to pick up some packs and build a deck. I've already warned him that my participation is conditional on him not mentioning the online version of the game, which I don't know about, don't care about, and will never play or be interested in.
Day One
I don't want to talk about work, so I won't; I'll just say three things -- I got swag (good swag); it's awesome being able to work with friends (at the new place, as it was at the old); and B's cubes are much nicer than A's cubes.
Oh, and I'm tired of reading documentation. That too.

We mustn't forget that today is the most holiest of days because today is the anniversary of the birth of one Mr. Arthur Guinness.
