Leavin On A Jet Plane

Don't know when he'll be back again.

Mr T Departs For Foreign Climes

Once again our own Mr T is heading out for the sandbox, to do his time for Queen and country, or something like that.

Last week we met up to raise a glass and hang out. We ended up going out to the Works for deluxe burgers in the company of my lovely wife. I drank a milkshake; our waitress may have been a ninja, and Mr T drank curry mayo through a straw.

It was related to life goals. Don't ask.

On Friday we had a big shindig for him. It was a blast. Mr T stripped down to his undies (and not because of booze; he was trying to win charades, trying to get his team to guess 'swimsuit calendar', and they couldn't come up with the answer, the rubes). I discovered that Angel and I may well be the dream team for Cranium generally and pictionary in particular.

There were board games, and puzzle games, and a few risque games. Everybody had a good time, nobody got arrested, and it finally petered out when the karaoke started to happen.

Just about a perfect party all around.

Recovery

I wasn't very hung over Saturday morning. For this I credit Optimist Prime not giving me scotch, which does not have a salubrious effect upon my constitution. Still, we didn't leave until three or so in the morning, so there was a definite sleep deprivation issue which really got in the way of anything productive happening that day. I mowed the lawn and played Civilization.

Today my folks were up to visit, so we met them downtown for lunch, plus my brother and his girlfriend. We went to the pub that used to be the Elephant and Castle. It was okay. The beer selection is pretty good; they have Okanagan Springs, believe it or not.

After that we took the old man to a quaint little bookstore with a quaint little shopkeeper and a fair amount of damage was done. We bought a metric ton of books -- I got some scifi, some Charles Dickens in fancy-pants hardcover, and some sailing books for the wife. The proprietor threw in a few books gratis as thanks for the business (and, I suspect, for the visiting -- he got on with the old man like a couple of old thieves).

My lovely wife picked up my birthday and xmas presents while we were there, more fancy-pants hardcover books; Canterbury Tales, and Shakespeare complete in three hefty volumes (comedies, tragedies, and histories).

My brother also gave me a replacement second monitor for a very nice price.

Other Stuff

I mentioned someone by the handle of 'Angel' above. This is our most recent Vampire player, who also has been watching the X-Files with me, and generally being an enthusiastic participant in whatever we find ourselves doing. She had not acquired a soubriquet as of yet, but now she has that one, due to something about a whiteboard decorated with girly stuff. Of course, like all good nicknames, it works on a couple of levels (although not all of them.)

I am enjoying the vast quantities of beer that I brought back from out west. Mmm, beer.

I bought Battlestar Galactica on Blue Ray. Amazon had a sale and I couldn't say no.

At Mr T's party, RussianMom told me that she'd discovered there was a Stargate card game. I was surprised at this, as I have bought a few boxes of it, but I hadn't pegged her as a Stargate fan. Turns out, she really is. There will have to be Stargate in the future.

Speaking of, I need to build new Shadowrun decks, because that game is so much fun it's probably illegal in Arkansas.

I haven't had a chance to try the Game of Thrones boardgame yet, but I will. Oh, I will.

That's about it. You're now up to date.
