One move and the Alsace gets it.
I'm almost done with Castles of Steel, the book on tape about the naval history of WWI I've been listening to. Awesome. Definitely going to have to get the book in dead tree format, although that doesn't include the narrator doing his Churchill impression.
There was a great story in it about British Q-ships, which were ships disguised as innocent looking merchant ships that were actually well armed and fielded with the intent of drawing out a U-boat attack so they could sink the bastards. The ship in question put on a good show and drew in the U-boat until, finally convinced the British were a real target and not a Q-ship, the U-boat surfaced and the German captain went up to have a look. He opened the top hatch just as the first British shell hit, decapitating him and dropping his headless body back into his boat. That, I'll wager, would be a bit of a hit to the old morale.
Hockey in HD is sure pretty on a huge TV. Now if only the Sens weren't sucking so hard.
There's a magic draft coming this Sunday. It's hugely exciting, if you're the sort to be excited by that kind of thing. And, I am. The prizes are so exciting that even RJA, not a magic player by inclination (although he did attend game night and played a few games), expressed a desire for said prizes. Although that could be an expression of the same sentiment that makes him shop at the LCBO despite his avoidance of alcohol in all its forms.
It is brutally cold outside. I do not approve.
I have the Foran Object's blog listed in the 'not alive' category on my sidebar, but he updated it today with exciting news! Exciting, graphic, somewhat disturbingly detailed news. Um. Anyway. Congratulations!
I've started reading Tigana on my sexy, sexy eBook reader. It's been a long time since I'd read it, and it continues to impress. Good lord, that man can write.
For the magic draft, I'm bringing Ravnica, Betrayers of Kamigawa, and Nemesis, in roughly that order. I know, I know ... I'm hoping hard for the Pointy Stick in that pack of Betrayers.
There are many things which I'm very, very ready to be over, including but not necessarily limited to: winter, the bus strike, the recession, environmentalist hysteria, and this week.
And finally, go read RJA's blog for an amusing comment in which an alumni person from his college located him via google and is bugging him for information. That's why I am nonspecific as to my name, the college which I attended, my current location, and any other identifying information which could land me in a similar situation.
I don't understand the alumni thing, even if you went to a big famous school which you can be really proud to have attended, which I didn't.
That about sums it up. I have nothing further to report.
